The Cavallino Diffused Museum is one of the seven museums that comprise the University Museum System (SMA) of the University of Salento. It was built and inaugurated in 2003 on the site of an important Messapian settlement, identified in the second half of the 19th century. Numerous archaeological investigations have highlighted its great significance. It is part of the Salento Museum Network.
For the 2025 GEP, the MUSEUM is organizing a guided tour entitled "The Director Tells... Living in the Messapian era." During the tour, visitors, guided by the Museum Director (Dr. Corrado Notario), will discover how the work of archaeologists, historians, and researchers can reconstruct the past and the lives of the people who inhabited our territory and who are still part of our daily lives today. The tour will focus on the remains of dwellings (from 8th-century BC huts to 6th-century BC masonry houses) and will culminate in the reconstruction of a Messapian dwelling built in the area of the Archaeological Educational Museum.
