Greek and Latin books and documents of the ancient Mediterranean reveal daily life, schooling, religion, and culture. Philology, enriched by digital and multidisciplinary tools, reconstructs their complexity and transmission. Thus, research, knowledge, and culture become unifying forces, creating connections, transcending spatial and temporal boundaries, fostering intercultural dialogue, and conveying a message of peace.

The pathway designed by the Philological and Papyrological Group of the University of Salento presents a series of posters that illustrate the richness of the ancient Mediterranean through Greek and Latin texts, both literary and documentary, in dialogue with contemporary research.

Posters on display:

  1. Papyri, Politics and Power: the Dialogue between Greeks and Jews in Alexandria – Papyri reveal conflicts and relations between Greeks and Jews in relation to Rome.
  2. The Art of Epitomizing in Philology, Statistics and Digital Tools – Epitomes, concise texts, rediscovered through philology and digital analysis.
  3. Dialogue in the Schooling of Greco-Roman and Byzantine Egypt – School papyri show how dialogues supported language and cultural learning.
  4. Didactics in Ancient Egypt: Fables for School Learning – Fables on papyri used to teach language and rhetoric, combining delight and education.
  5. Love Poems in Egypt: Two Papyri of Anacreon – Two papyri show refined taste for Greek love poetry in Roman Egypt.
  6. From Petronius to Petrolio: the Satyricon as a Model of Experimental Novel – From Petronius’ Satyricon to Pasolini’s Petrolio, an experimental thread across time.
  7. Notes of Ancient Readers: Journey through the Scholia on Lucan – Glosses and scholia in medieval and Renaissance manuscripts reflect Lucan’s fortune.
  8. Digital Papyrology: A Project for the Papyri of Southern Italy – The PRIN PNRR enhances the Salerno and Lecce collections through restoration and digitization.
