Neural Networks: from the brain to Learning and Dreaming

What is a neural network? Why do scientists study it? How does a biological neuron work compared to an artificial one? Through an interactive stand with posters, simple experiments and engaging explanations, visitors will explore the connection between neuroscience and artificial intelligence. The activity will show how complex collective behaviors can emerge from many simple units, forming the basis of memory, learning, and recognition – both in the brain and in machines. Two posters will guide the journey: the first introduces the fundamentals of neural networks, while the second presents an advanced research line, the “Learning and Dreaming” paradigm in Three-directional Associative Memory (TAM) networks, which investigates how sleep-like mechanisms can enhance memory and learning in artificial systems.
