Naval Model Show: A Lateen Sail on the Horizon! Stories of Sailors, Cultures, and Ships
Activities proposed
For
For nearly two millennia, the history of the Mediterranean Sea was shaped by lateen sails. Those beautiful triangular sails were as difficult to maneuver as they were elegant. They defined an era that ended with the rise of motor propulsion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, very little remains of that world, and it's essential to ensure that this culture and these sails don't disappear completely.
This is why the Underwater Photography and Coastal Systems Monitoring Laboratory, the 3D Laboratory of UniSalento, and the ANMI of Lecce are working together. They are convinced that everything related to the lateen sail must be preserved and promoted as a shared heritage.
This event is a unique opportunity to admire an extraordinary exhibition of incredibly rare scale models of lateen-rigged boats, all crafted using traditional naval and "arsenal" modeling techniques.
