The sound of light

What does light look like? Light is part of our everyday experience; we see how it is reflected or absorbed by objects. But can it have other purposes? Can we hear light and see sound? With interferometry, a play of mirrors and lasers, we demonstrate how light can be used to visualize vibrations and movements. Different types of light create different effects. With these techniques, we measure a wide variety of effects every day, from the properties of quantum materials to gravitational waves.
